Crap Luck
Sometimes you just aren’t meant to win poker online. I’ve been riding an awesome winning streak for the past 8 months or so, but this weekend just annihilated me. After finishing in the money at every game for a while, I sat down at a sit ‘n go online poker tournament. I was feeling confident-I had played with my opponents before and I gad a pretty good handle on how they played, so I was ready to go home with some cash.
I stuck to my strategy for the first few rounds, folding the mediocre hands that I was dealt and buying up blinds when I was in position. After what seemed like an eternity, I was dealt A-K offsuit, so I raised 3 times the big blind. My only caller was in the last position, a player who went all in. He had me covered, but I knew him to be a big bluffer so I called him.
Sure enough, he turned over Q-7, so I flipped my A-K with a smug confidence. Until that is, the flop came out 5-Q-9. And then the turn showed a 7. I already had the hand lost, but the final Queen on the river gave him a full house and twisted the knife a bit further. You can make the best reads and play with the best poker hands, but sometimes the cards will turn against you no matter what you do.
