Wedding Ring Sets – Symbol of a Permanent Link
The idea of wearing wedding ring sets is borne out of practicality. Normally, when a man finally decides that his partner is the person with whom he would like to spend the rest of his life with, he sets out to find and offers her an engagement ring. This is supposed to symbolize that their relationship is leading to something more permanent.
When the time comes to marry, they both scout for a pair of wedding rings or bands. Eventually after the wedding, some women end up wearing both the wedding and engagement ring. Unfortunately, they usually don’t end up matching perfectly. To remedy this, wedding ring sets were introduced. Since the engagement and wedding rings that make up a set are created together, they naturally fit and match precisely.
A typical set is comprised of two separate pieces: the engagement ring, which usually supports a center stone, and the wedding band. They are designed such that, when worn together, they fit as one piece with the center stone appearing to be at the geometric center of the entire set.
Genuine but inexpensive sets usually have only one gem, the center stone. Customarily, the stone is cut out of diamond or cubic zirconia while both rings are fashioned out of either yellow gold or white gold. Sterling silver is also used for even more inexpensive pieces.
More elaborately designed sets are composed of an engagement ring with the usual center stone. Only this time, it is flanked by a number of smaller stones. The smaller gems are either set in a bouquet around the center or embedded on the walls of the ring. Sometimes, even the band is embedded with a row of tiny sparkling gems.
Generally speaking, wedding ring sets can be very expensive. However, this only holds true if the man buying it does not end up marrying the woman to whom he first offers them to. But if they end up tying the knot, the cost would be approximately equivalent to that of buying separate rings.
Prudent couples ultimately decide on buying wedding ring sets together in order to make sure that they end up with exactly a pair that both of them are comfortable with.
